Death by crop duster: dumbest assassination idea ever

Hey we're sending thor hill out into the middle of nowhere....I know to kill him let's nail him with a crop duster...or try shooting him from a biplane with questionable handling characteristics

Simply genius

You know we could simply send a car over and snipe the guy

Nah a flying crop duster machine gunning him would be so much more discreet....

And the scene wheee the plane dives down to ram him....what a dumb idea...let me dive down my
plane a few feet from the ground so I can kill thornhill

I have to agree with you; it was a very impractical and convoluted assassination attempt.
I guess the rational would be that it looks more like an accident than say a sniper in a car, but I still don't buy it.

Though, I guess it would have never become such an iconic scene if the villains tried something as nondescript as a sniper.

It was a stupid idea for assassinating someone, but at least it made it more realistic that he was able to escape. If a car pulled up and shot at him, Hitchcock would have needed a much more convoluted reason for him making it out of there.

Theres no rational reason why they would choose a crop duster as an assassination method, but it works out well for the movie in the end. Sometimes its more fun to have crazy supervillain assassination methods in movies like this instead of more realistic stuff. I dont think I would have enjoyed the older 007 movies as much if every villain had just shot Bond instead of trying to take him out with lasers and sharks.

They're not trying to hit him with the plane, they're trying to shoot him from it. You can hear gunfire.

I mean, really, how many times will you look under Jabba's manboobs?

While actually I did enjoy the scene for its entertainment value, there was no way this could have been perceived as an accident. On each pass, they were shooting at him with bullets - so whether the bullets came from a car or an airplane, the police aren't going to know. If this was real life and they wanted an accident, why not just hit him with a car and make it look like a hit-n-run? But as I said, it's a movie, so let's enjoy it.

I hate trolls like this guy ^. He posts one snarky remark about a much-loved movie and is never seen again. I hate cowards.
