shareI was. It's still a bit scary. Notice the similarity that Ralph Bakshi's vision of the LOTR Ringwraiths look sort of like the banshee. I so wish Darby O'Gill would come out on dvd.
"When I get some money, I kiss it's green skin..."
The Swans
I have very vivid memories of this film when I was a kid. I had nightmares because of the banshee!!
sharei get scared at things often, but i don't think that ever scared me. that was my favorite movie when i was little, we rented almost every month when i was 6 or 7.
"Let's not go to camelot, 'tis a silly place"
Oh. my. God. The banshee scared the <bleep> out of me.
shareyep--I got creeped out BIG TIME. We were actually at a drive in movie theater back in the 70's and right after that scene, it started raining like CRAZY and scared me and my brother even more.
Yikes
I LOVED the last 20 minutes, with the carriage ride - the banshee still haunts me.
I get so pissed, in March, on cable - they play Darby maybe once - and for the last two years they cut out the banshee scene.. grrrrrrrr.
(Hopes the DVD is widescreen!)
I beg you'll forgive the ignorance of an Italian... Is the banshee the spirit with a womanlike appearance? I was frightened when I saw it for the first time (I was 8 years old).
shareOh, don't worry about the ignorance of Italians. We Irish are always a little to willing to tell stories about our myths. The Banshee is a ghost that forms out of the mist into a woman. She has a wail that will put the chill into the toughest man's heart and will visit the house of the noble families in Ireland to warn that a member of the family was about to die. Each noble family had it's own Banshee. Of course, since the English ruled the island and for the most part treated all the Irish as vassals and often brought in Scots to be lords over them, and thereby leave estates in Scotland to be ruled over by English lords and subjugate both lands, there are very few Irish who can't list nobility in the back ground. So probably there are none that are immune. In winter, I can't help but think of the Banshees when the mist come off the pond at night. Not that I truly believe in any of it.
shareAlso, it is said that she calls the coach of death
shareWhat a lovely magical movie. I remimber watching this when I was a child. When the Banshee showed up I was a little frightened because of the lighting effects.
"You are a *beep* moron! Thank you." Reginold the demon.
