'The Howling Man' review
We all have our favorite Zone's but this one stands far ahead of many. Just watching again last night brought back all of its excitement and quality and I wanted to submit my review.
This compelling episode excels on every level: The perfect cast choices for the doubting traveler who succumbs to the evil's influences; the head monk played by the outstanding John Carradine that adds charisma and charm to every role and the perfect devil played by Robin Hughes who a year later did a fine job in 'Thriller: Trio of Terror' about a man who escaped his smothering death by only seconds. Throughout this episode a fabulous touch of camera angles depicting emotions and emphasizing draw us all closer inside the story. And the magnificent music that reigns over the devil when he has won and transforms into what he is was born to be is both chilling and captivating. I especially love this ending: Robin Hughes's amazing make up and sympathetic eyes as his appearance from the innocent poor imprisoned moaning soul wearing moth eaten clothing that plays on your heartstrings to the overpowering larger than life fearless devil, not forgetting the beautiful lighting and shadows that can only be created by the days black & white filming that envelopes the entire story.
If you've never seen this one or haven't in awhile, give yourself a treat and take the 25 minutes that will make your day. And check out this link for a superb review of this episode:
