Favorite episode with the Devil?
I'd say "Nick of Time" by a country mile.
share"A Nice Place to Visit" is my fav :)
shareAt first I didn't know why you were choosing "Nick of Time," but then I remembered that the little machine looks like a devil. (But is it THE devil?) So on the assumption that the question includes devil images and minions, here's my list:
1. Nick of Time
2. The Hunt (contains a devil's representative)
3. A Nice Place to Visit (only because I like Sebastian Cabot)
4. Printer's Devil
5. Of Late I Think of Cliffordville
Good list! I would also pick 'Escape Clause' with David Wayne. Even when I was a kid, I could never understand how people could be so reckless and sign a contract with the Devil. Seriously, do they really think they can outsmart the Prince of Lies?
I'd also pick the last three episodes on your list. I love 'The Hunt' but I never really consider it a devil episode in the same sense that the others were. Hyder Simpson was a nice man who just happened to die in an accident. He wasn't looking to make a deal with the devil. And when he did encounter one of his "representatives", he wasn't tempted by him at all.
That’s one of the reasons I think “The Hunt” works so well – because the underlying implication so to speak is handled just right. It’s less about making deals than it is about resisting temptation. In the end it was Rip to the rescue, as had happened so many times before. Had Hyder been a different sort of feller (to whom loyalty, devotion and faith meant little or nothing) the other path might have been more appealing.
shareFor my money The Howling Man beats 'em all.
shareThat's my favorite. But Nick of time is my second.
share Geez! How did I forget that one? One of my favorites! The final scene was one of the scariest endings ever!
Considering how Satan operates, it was the most realistic too. The 'howling man' had the traveller totally fooled into believing that he was some innocent, benign person who was falsely imprisoned.
As Brother Jerome explained, the inability to recognze Satan has always been Man's greatest weakness.
If you think about it, isn't the devil in EVERY episode in some form?! 😜
Honestly, though. The Howling Man and The Hunt are my picks.
And am I missing something about Nick of Time? It's one of my least favorite episodes
"am I missing something about Nick of Time? It's one of my least favorite episodes"
Well, it helps if you're a Trekkie.
The Howling Man was the best story from a pure writing standpoint, but I'm going with two others:
Printer's Devil because, well, Burgess Merideth. I always liked his performances.
Of Late I Think of Cliffordville because, well, JULIE NEWMAR!!!!!!! Nothing more be said!
