favorite one hour episode? (season 4)

i find it funny how that question was asked here about all seasons but skipped fourth if i'm not mistaken, and that's exactly the season i was interested in asking about. that was actually the only season that aired (on a no longer existing channel) in my country and what got me started on the twilight zone (1959). my pick is "the incredible world of horace ford" (i bought the dvd definitive edition box just to hear the radio adaptation of it!).

"In His Image", with "The Parallel" and "Miniature" not far behind.

"Horace Ford" has its moments though Hingle is hard to stomach sometimes and the length is bit too much (like so many season four episodes).

I used to watch Twilight Zone a lot in the late 90s/earlys 00s... it's been almost 15 years and I probably liked some episodes from Season 4 more but I have good memories watching: "Passage On The Lady Anne"... it was different but at the same time very Twilight Zoney.

What about "The New Exhibit"? A proto slasher film of sorts, wouldn't you say?

The one I remembered from when I was a little kid was "Miniature". But I never saw it on TZ when it was in syndication. I thought maybe I had imagined it! Found out years later that it was not included in the original syndication package. It wasn't shown on TV until about 1984.

I liked it even more as an adult when I could understand it. The others mentioned are good. But I remember seeing "Of Late I Think of Cliffordville" when it part of a TZ marathon. I don't think it's a popular episode. But I like it. Who could resist Julie Newmar as the charming devil?

I like that the twist is while he looks thirty on the outside on the inside he's still a very old man which makes his prospects for rebuilding his wealth pretty grim.

"Miniature" is my third favorite after "Death Ship" and "Valley of the Shadow." I really like the scenes with the doll because they are set in the Victorian period. However, his family members get on my nerves, especially the mother.

"The Parallel" has such a cool premise and the treatment of that premise is largely subtle which makes everything happening to Robert Gaines so much more unnerving. If I have one beef with the episode it's with its pat resolution. Serling could have come up with something better than Gaines returns to his own world, end of story. One more twist at the end would have put this one up with the greats.

Agreed such an understated episode but still unnerving and like you said it would have been a classic had it had a different twist ending. maybe having him land on a "third" earth or something like that.

I loved The New Exhibit and Miniature.
The wax figures fascinated me. The lengths to keep the figures "alive" was chilling! Pun intended!

As for Miniature..... I love Robert Duval! In ANYTHING!

"The New Exhibit." In my opinion by far the best episode of season 4. I also love "On Thursday we leave for Home." I really don't dislike season 4 at all. I don't know why it is hated so much. The episodes feel a little different because of the hour-long format be are still good and if I did the math of bad-to-good episodes I would probably find that Season 4 stacks up no worst than most of the other seasons.

I agree. Each season has it's good and not so good episodes. We all have our favorites. We just may not agree on what those are but that's OK. It just means that there is something for everyone in the Twilight Zone. That's one of the many things I love about this show.

Aye, taken as a whole, Season 4 is quite good in terms of overall quality. Actually only one episode comes to mind that I don’t care much for – "The Bard." Even at that, I don’t hate it. The biggest problem I had with Season 4 initially was the fact that the runtime is effectively doubled. It took an episode or two to make the adjustment but after that it was fine.

I think season four gets more hate than it deserves. Sure its not as good as the rest, but there are definitely some solid episodes. They just suffer from being padded too much.

"On Thursday" only improves with age. I guess when you put two geniuses together like James Whitmore and Serling you're going to get something timeless.
