The world's worst vampire hunter...

Harker almost deserved to be bitten. He doesn't realize that Dracula's wife is a vampire and allows her too close to his neck. He shows Dracula a picture of his fiance, putting her in danger. He doesn't wear a cross or carry anything for protection. He comes to kill Dracula in the early evening. He kills the wife first, the weaker of the two creatures, allowing Dracula time to wake up.

Seriously, everything about that guy says "BITE ME PLEASE!!!"

When you're a kid watching this, you think nothing of it. I thought Godzilla vs Megalon was serious business back in the day too, but I watched this and was thinking, is this guy mentally challenged? You've got Dracula dead to rites and you kill the girl first? Riiiiiiiigghht.

Ladies first.

Seems I've misplaced me steak knife.

Well in "Scars of Dracula" it is revealed that Dracula actually has some kind of psychic shield, shown in the form of glowing red eyes, which protects him from potential threats from mere mortals during the day.

It would be fair then to assume that Harker avoided Dracula's coffin possibly because of Dracula's psychic shield which was revealed later in the series.

Cable TV's MeTV channel showed this film on its Saturday night Svengoolie show. SPOILERS: In this film, had Harker killed Dracula first, the female vampire presumably would have been cured, and Harker would have survived.

Bram's Stoker's 1897 Dracula novel does not remotely create this fate for Harker's character. In the novel, Harker is with the team that dispatches the vampire at the end.

Yeah the fact he waited until seconds before darkness descended to kill Drac and his squeeze is hilariously inept, faults aside it's a great film though.

Harker was first and foremost a librarian more so than a vampire hunter so he had to make sure all the books in the library were properly shelved before trying to destroy Dracula

reply

Damned Harker and his work ethic.

reply

I laughed out loud at that!
