Best Dracula Film?
Does anyone think this is the best Dracula film ever made?
shareI’ll go you one better: I think Horror of Dracula is the best VAMPIRE movie ever made, with or without Dracula. It was leagues ahead of anyone else, and it really gets everything right. There’s the right mix of drama, suspense, sex and horror, plus Cushing and Lee dominate in their respective roles. Imagine a 1958 audience reacting when Dracula bursts through the library door, fangs bared and face covered in blood! What a stunner that must’ve been.
Horror of Dracula deserves every bit of its legendary status. And, like a fine wine, it gets better with age.
Its a toss up between Love at First Bite and Dracula vs Frankenstein, even though Dracula had to share time with the Frankenstein Monster. What made Love at first bite different was the fact that Dracula got away and wasn't killed at the end. And the Dracula in Dracula vs Frankenstein was very scary with a real creepy voice and a powerful ring which spits out fire and his character was very well written in that film
shareI haven't seen many Dracula films but this is a very good effort. I don't think it's as good as Dracula 1931. No shame there. I also think the 1979 film is better. But that doesn't mean this film isn't well worth watching. I think Peter Cushing as Van Helsing is the best in that role I've seen so far. And Lee, in very limited screen time, does a fine menacing job as Dracula. I certainly like it more than the Coppola film, too.
Yes, I do.
shareI’ve always considered Horror of Dracula to be the best Dracula movie. With that said, if Lugosi’s Dracula had maintained that creeping, malignant atmosphere of the first couple reels, I’d consider it the greatest Dracula AND horror movie of all time. I know they were following the stage play, but this was pre-Code; there was no reason for it to go so soft.
shareYes. Peter Cushing is the definitive Van Helsing, and Christopher Lee is the definitive Dracula.
I love it.
