Gillian's wardrobe

Let me start by saying...I've been watching this movie for years, it was my mom's favorite movie when it was first released in theatres and she passed the love of it to me!

Anyway....I *adore* Gillian's wardrobe, especially the black number when she confesses to Shep in his office. Wow! I love her leopard print heels, nice touch! Even Merle's emerald green gown worn to the Zodiac - fabulous!
Why don't we dress like this anymore? Those were the days!

Today's fashion is garbage compared to the late 1950s Today we We all have to be skinny legged with no boobs or waist or hips, like boys. What a shame. I also have to give kudos to that wonderful Hermione Gingold and the great Elsa Lanchester, to say nothing of Jack Lemmon and Wildman Ernie Kovacs.

I agree. Great wardrobe for everyone in the movie. I especially loved Gil's muff during the winter scenes. So much so that I tried to find my own but couldn't. My sister ended up making me one (fake fur) for my birthday one year. I always pretending I was Kim Novak when I used it.

I'm not sure if people (average, run of the mill people) ever dressed in such a fashion. The clothes were stunning but most people can't and won't wear custom-made designer clothing. The glamour of old Hollywood is gone and has been replaced by cheap and tawdry trashy people.

I'm pretty sure that Shep's secretary, in that scene where she reacts to his snappish temper, is wearing one of Kim Novak's outfits from Vertigo.

Yes, I had that exact thought! It was the gray suit Scotty was so obsessed with Judy getting. She wears it in the pivotal scene when Kim Novak gets her hair colored like Madelaine's, but wears it down against Scotty's instruction. He looks at her and insists she put it up like he wanted it. Eventually, she acquiesces and goes into the bathroom to put her hair like he wants it. When she emerges from the bathroom, the transformation is complete. Scotty is then able to accept Judy completely. Kim wears the gray suit in that cataclysmic scene. It sure looked like the one Tina was wearing in Shep's office in BB&C.

Fascinating! I did not notice the Vertigo connection, but now that you mention it, I'm sure you're right.
