Paths of Glory or Full Metal Jacket?

I liked both films but I think Full Metal is much stronger. I know both movies depict different aspects of war, but I think FMJ's message is much more powerful. Paths of Glory is all about greed and one's own reputation, while FMJ is all about the stripping of one's own humanity to the point where they become killing machines. Due to that, I personally believe FMJ is much darker and a stronger film. What's everyone else's opinion?

Kidding? Definitely Paths of Glory.

I prefer the beginning of Full metal Jacket, but the end scene of Paths of Glory I find far more thoughtful and moving than anything in that film, including even the suicide of Private Pyle.

Quite frankly, the beginning of Full Metal Jacket was the truest, most appalling depiction of the 'necessary' training required to become a soldier in the U.S. military. R. Lee Ermey is a revelation as the drill instructor. What the G-rated TV-movie "Tribes" did in 1970, this one was X-rated (yes, X). What ghastly and dehumanizing content spilled from this man's lips! I was so shocked, I could not watch any further. Paths of Glory, on the other hand, is disturbing, yet totally watchable from beginning to end. The depiction of the French officers (I'm sure this was truly intentional on Mr. Kubrick's part) and their inhuman and demeaning treatment of their troops as mere cannon fodder, shocks and demands the viewer's total attention. Truly the best anti-war film by miles and miles. FMJ isn't even second place as anti-war films go when considering Kubrick's film work. That would go to his atomic-age masterpiece, Dr. Strangelove.

Paths of Glory by a huge margin. Full Metal Jacket was good, but not great. This movie is great. Absolutely terrific.
