What would you have liked to happen to scott carey?

I would have liked scott to have had 3 older children...

amanda carey ..17 years old

jake carey 15 years old

and kelli- ann carey... 13 or 14 years old

how would these kids have responded to a shrinking dad?

Beth was too young to understand and she treated her dad like an unruly pet. She had to be removed from her fathers presence as she was too much of a threat like the cat or the spider.

I agree that it would have been nice for Scott to have spent more time than he does in that height bracket (six to twelve inches). When he is reduced to mere inches, the film takes on a Horror feeling, more than before, as it thus far has veered between Drama and Science Fiction.

If Scott could have remained visible longer than he has, then The Incredible Shrinking Man could concentrate upon his resolve to perservere and make amends instead of giving up. As it is, he does try to survive and to make peace, true. But he doesn't receive the opportunity to come to terms with his past.

As it remains, Louise and Scott's brother are left to believe that the cat has done him in. I would have given Scott a friend to share his time, even a mad scientist, who could reverse the effect for a more upbeat climax than stands.
