They're both excellent, but it's kinda apples to oranges.

One is a hugely influential science fiction tale (and low key adaptation of The Tempest). The other is a fantastic supernatural/psychological thriller.

If I'm really gonna say "which one do I like better", Forbidden Planet wins, just based on my childhood nostalgia for it, and love of Leslie Niesen (and Robbie). But as for which movie is "better"? They're both incredibly good films. Two of the best of their decades and genres.
