just seen it and guess what!

I watched this movie with an open mind and guess what, I actually quite enjoyed it.Sure the dialogue was hokey but the acting and stunt work was ok and it looked great. Also I think it told the story well enough. What exactly were you expecting when you knew john wayne was playing ghengis khan,a mongolian accent, whatever that sounds like.It was made in the 50s and this was what you got where foreign characters where involved, well this or a dodgy stereotypical accent.Nowadays if mel gibson done it you would get subtitles and I dont think that would have worked back then.So give the movie a break and just enjoy it for what it is.6/10

Sure, if you can get past the constand flat delivery of lines, bad writing, hokey acting, and look the other way on the cheesey action and highschool-playish fighting/swordplay scenes, completely ignoring all that is bad, terrible, poorly-done, inexcuseable and aweful with this film and instead focus on the wonderful irradiated Utah landscapes and gorgeous dancers then yes, I'd say you have a movie worth watching.

For the rest I'd have to say it's not about having or not having an open mind, it's about possessing the ability to spot a sub-sub-par production and to see it for what it is. Am I saying it's not enjoyable? Not at all. I watched it last night for the first time and saw it all the way through (believe it or not!) and found a few small scenes and instances that were entertaining.

But anyone being completely honest with themselves who isn't allowing their devotion to this actor or that director to could their judgement must admit this is very much the flop it was originally critiqued as.

3/10 from me, and that's being kind.

It has a few positive things: great score, Pedro Armandiraz, decent photography, and some pretty well done battle scenes. Unfortunately, the badly miscast Wayne, his frequent "yer's", and the laughable dialogue drag it down to that 3/10 level. The dubious history is irrelevant in a movie like this, I want to say :) subsidies

Just enjoy it as 50's style movie making, where the stars were the most important reason to make it regardless of whether they were "right" for the part or not. They put people in the theater seats to buy the overpriced popcorn and candy bars.
