Around the World in 80 Days vs. Giant

I personally am amazed that 80 days got the award, Giant IMHO is a much better flim.
Who do you think should win? Thanks for your help. I'll tally the votes

I think Giant is one of the best movies ever. It should have won.

My vote is Around the World in 80 days. I have seen Giant (a long time ago though) and while I found it fairly entertaining as an epic, I just thought it dragged in some scenes and was slightly self-indulgent in others.

Crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentation of the women!

I personally like "80" days better. "Giant" I found to be a bit too much in love with itself. "80 Days" never takes itself that seriously; it's all fun. The Victorian mansion on the Texas plains I found ridiculous. James Dean's character and the picture really get annoying after Dean strikes it rich; the brains of the movie fell out. The best thing about the whole film is Elizabeth Taylor.

I am surprise that it beat Giant, The King and I and the Ten Commandments! I do think that all these films are far more superior than Around the World in 80 Days. Apparently, the film had a huge campaign. Oh well, The Academy got it wrong numerous times : Oliver!, Crash, Marty, How Green Was My Valley, The Greatest Show on Earth -- to name a few.

I really don't care. My favorite movie from 1956 will always be Forbidden Planet and awards don't mean that much to me.

Giant is one of the best movies ever, watched it many times... And Elizabeth Taylor is total hottie in it!

Yeah, despite its soapy tendencies, Giant actually amounts to something reasonably substancial. And although Around The World looks great, the cinematography in Giant is even more impressive.

I found this movie visually stunning, and gave us a snapshot of cultures around the world. I can't vote, since I haven't seen Giant, just a few scenes. The plot maybe better in Giant, but this film is no lightweight for talent. The cameos by the masters make this film in my opinion.
