I love classic movies, but never understood the hype behind this movie. I have yet to watch it all the way through after several attempts. What aggrivates me most is his upturned collar in the beginning of the film. Ok, maybe the cop/counselor would not have turned it down, but surely his doting mother, father or grandmother would have. Heck I want to reach into the TV and do it myself! This always disables my ability to suspend my disbelief, and certainly due to the hype of the movie, I always imagine ppl on set saying "oh JD was so into character, that collar up was so spontanious and revealing of his character". Although there is great insight into "teen angst" i do not feel this film has what it takes to be as relevant today as when it was released.
