Boring, bordering on painful

I thought I'd try a classic and see what all the fuss surrounding James Dean was about, but I struggled to watch even 15 minutes of this film. I even wanted to give up after 5. He is so awful, I just don't get the adulation. He reminds me of another talentless and overrated actor - Leonardo DiCaprio. I want my 15 minutes back!

He barely watches 15 and whines that it's "boring, bordering on painful" and that Dean is "so awful."

Pretty much says it all...

OP, stick with Adam Sandler films and movies with lot of loud noises and explosions.

And we wonder why jobs are going out of the country.

reply

That's pretty much the standard response with anyone who doesn't like a classic. Oh it must be because today's generation needs Adam Sandler and explosions otherwise it's just too boring!

I very much prefer the generation of movies that I belong to, cos I can't relate to the period of the 50s (and prior). People act and behave very differently, and the expectations of audiences were very different to todays. Most old movies I see are just so corny and theatrical. It's obvious how far movies have evolved.

No expectations, no disappointments.

That's OK. You have no imagination at all. It's not unusual these days, but it is a pity.

i think cuz u forced it dude. I watched it when i was already "bored" long time ago and thought it was boring and *beep* but i saw it yesterday in a good mood and became a huge fan, on tv. So maybe u'll like it later, when it just unexpectantly comes up and ur trying to get with a chick and u watch dean and steal some moves, u know wat im sayin

Face it -
Some people prefer films with explosions and fake gunplay with no plots to deep emotional films.

Some people prefer Lady Gaga to the Beatles.

Some people prefer McDonalds to a home cooked meal

Opinion does not equal intelligence

I love classic movies, but never understood the hype behind this movie. I have yet to watch it all the way through after several attempts. What aggrivates me most is his upturned collar in the beginning of the film. Ok, maybe the cop/counselor would not have turned it down, but surely his doting mother, father or grandmother would have. Heck I want to reach into the TV and do it myself! This always disables my ability to suspend my disbelief, and certainly due to the hype of the movie, I always imagine ppl on set saying "oh JD was so into character, that collar up was so spontanious and revealing of his character". Although there is great insight into "teen angst" i do not feel this film has what it takes to be as relevant today as when it was released.

PS this is one movie I would be interested to see a remake

Anyone who "gives up" on a film after 15 minutes shouldn't be allowed to post on IMDb. That's one of the problems with films not being watched in theaters, that many young people lost the ability to "get into" the development of a film, of story and character and atmosphere. Now it's more "give me my kick or I leave".

Now that doesn't mean that the film is above criticism.

Don't blame it on the *beep* young people man, we all were teens once. Age has nothing to do with it. I love classic films from all the way back to Chaplin and Keaton up through now with legends like Bale and Dicaprio ruling, but I was very bored with some "classics" Like 2001:A Space Odyssey and Once Upon a Time in the West. OP just didn't like the film and I could see why (although I enjoyed it myself) I could hardly believe a single line of dialogue and the decisions of just about every character made zero sense.
