Implied material of the sexy kind....

Was it just me, or did it seem as though something "more" happend after the fadeout at the end of Lady and Tramp's "Belle Notte." Intially I felt a little silly thinking that anything happend, particularly in a film such as this but then I got to thinking, how else would a pregnancy occur?, and the fadeout, and their positions at the fade in. I think more than spagetti was shared that night...or am I a bit insane?

You know, it's funny this was mentioned, albeit three years ago. I didn't think of that watching it as a kid. However, after seeing it again today, once I saw that scene again, the thought did cross my mind.... It's amazing after seeing a movie several years later, the "hidden details" you begin to notice--even in Disney movies. Obviously, since kids and parents generally watch movies together, movie makers add adult content to appease the adults as well.

All that aside, the personification in this movie makes the characters interesting. If this story was about regular people it would lose its luster. Yet it's intriguing imagining aristocrats, a showgirl, and a womanizer as dogs, and watching them face adult human issues. Long before Toy Story, and A Bug's Life you have "A Dog's Story" in Lady and the Tramp. No wonder it's such a classic!

I remember reading aboout this somewhere ages ago, like on wikipedia or something i think?
it said there was an 'implied sex scene' in lady and the tramp involving the main characters.
when i read that i was like wtf but then it occurred to me that they must mean the 'belle notte' scene.

Oh God. After reading all these comments, I'm begining to believe something more did happen...and now I can never look at Lady and Tramp the same way. xD I mean, of course I knew they had sex because of the pups at the end of the movie, but I didn't think it took place during the hilltop scene.

I re-watched the movie last night and I really didn't think about sex at all but I guess it makes sense since she was really upset when she finds out that he's a ladies man. When her friends asked her to marry one of them I thought it was to save her from the evil Aunt.

I liked the movie very much!

Well, I didn't see this movie until I was 52, but HECK YEAH I figured that's what was going on! If I had been 7, I wouldn't have had a clue though :)

Yes I think you're right. It's funny how I didn't even pay attention to that, just assumed they wouldn't put anything like that in a Disney film.

In an interview about that scene Walt Disney said that according to him Lady and Tramp mated after having their spaghetti. (Notice I didn't use the term "having sex" because they're dogs. That term would apply more to people. You're not insane. I've always pondered about this myself. You're right, that is how Lady could have had her puppies in the first place.

Oh yeah I think something happened but my question is how would Trusty and Jock have known? She went to the pound and was released and that fight with the Tramp happened the same day. Or did I miss something and it occurred after. From what I gather at most it happened the day after so unless Jock and a Trusty were told by Lady what happened or like doggy gossip someone else spread it heir proposal of marriage was as some others here have said because of her unhappiness with the baby and Aunt Sarah's meanness they wanted her to get away. OR it's cause being the older dogs with more experiences they recognised the signs in lady's facial expressions, manner maybe even a smell or something and and presuming thst the Tramp has a known reputation around other dogs they just made the assumption. They couldn't have known she was pregnant even as an animal she wouldn't show signs the day of/day after conception but it was more for her to save face in their conservative values remember it's set I think at the turn of the century in Middle America so sex before marriage was a no no and as the dogs are anthropomorphic and being raised around those values they'd probably integrate them into their own community as well. So it was probably to keep Lady no pun intended still a lady in the eyes of their community and not someone who had given herself away to passion and thus become fallen in the eyes of the community.

Well, I'll toss a fact and an opinion into the mix.

Fact: 60 to 65 days is a pretty average gestation period for dogs. If the puppies were littered around Thanksgiving, then the "love" was late September.

Opinion: If Disney had made things too explicitly a part of the story, then I supposed the Hayes censorship committee would have insisted on some sort of "morality play" sad ending.

Even if they were very subtle about it, so it would fly over many people's heads (especially children's), I think we can be sure that yes, Lady and Tramp had sex that night. 
