Age Difference

Probably the biggest age difference between Astaire and his female lead. Does anybody have a problem with this? My mum does, but she had bad experiences as a child and therefore she hates romances between old men and young women.

Personally I loved it. Who cares how old they are? Love is love. It wasn't an illegal age or anything.

Honestly, I don't think it was the age difference as much as the "experience difference." I've known many couples with large differences in their age and they are very happy. BUT they have had similar backgrounds and similar life experiences. That gave them common ground on which to build a relationship that would continue to grow.

With these two, it honestly did creep me out a bit. He was a very wealthy, much traveled, fairly selfish man with a great deal of worldly knowledge and experience. She had been in an orphanage her entire life in a VERY small village in France.

It had nothing to do with the age difference, I just got the feeling that he would get very bored eventually of her "simpler" ways. Even though that was the spark of his initial interest, I got the feeling he would be more than willing to move on quickly.
