Best Western series ever, your fave?
For me, it's Cheyenne. Then, Bonanza and Gunsmoke.
shareClassics:
1. Lawman Only started watching it a few years ago but love it.
2. Have Gun, Will Travel
3. Gunsmoke (older episodes)
4. Wanted Dead or Alive
5. Wagon Train
Have not seen enough of the others such as Cheyenne to add them.
Modern:
1. Justified (not from the period, but the concept is similar and the working title was Lawman)
2. Hell On Wheels
RIP Ron Swanson. Writers created your awesomeness in S1 and killed it in S7
Ranked in descending order:
1 - Cheyenne
2 - Have Gun - Will Travel
3 - The Lone Ranger
4 - The Rifleman
5 - Maverick
6 - Gunsmoke
7 - Bonanza
8 - Death Valley Days
9 - Sky King
10 - Tombstone Territory
11 - Lawman
12 - Bat Masterson
13 - 26 Men
❇If you can remember the '60s, then you weren't there.❇
Have Gun Will Travel
Wild Wild West
Cheyenne
Rawhide
The Lone Ranger
My favorite is The Rifleman.
shareMaverick
Gunsmoke
The Virginian
Cheyenne
Bat Masterson
Have Gun, Will Travel
Wild, Wild West
Bonanza
Adventures of Brisco County, Jr.
Alias Smith and Jones
Sugarfoot
Bearcats
It's really hard to narrow this down. There were many excellent westerns, and even at this I'm leaving out excellent stuff like:
The Big Valley
Bronco
Death Valley Days
Rawhide
Laramie
Paradise (or Guns of Paradise)
Cimarron Strip
never a big fan of Bonanza or the hour long gunsmoke. For me the 4 that stoood above the rest were;
The Rifleman
Maverick
Wagon Train
Cheyenne (a recent addition which also had the best theme song)
I love Westerns. The best are:
1. Cheyenne
2. Gunsmoke (the half hour shows)
3. The Rifleman
4. Maverick (with James Garner)
5. The Big Valley
6. Death Valley Days
7. Wagon Train
8. Broken Arrow
9. The Lone Ranger
The amazing thing is that I can't think of a Western produced in the 50's, where the Indian was not a very noble person.
I have a soft spot in my heart for "Roy Rogers Show" - half a western, I guess.
I also didn't see "Laredo" anywhere listed above. My sister and I LOVED that show.
As for a list - Along with the above:
The Rifleman will always be number one for me
The Lone Ranger a VERY close second
Lancer
The Young Riders (first two seasons, anyway)
Brisco County Jr and Wild Wild West are also favorites, but I consider them to be "unconventional westerns."
Thank you to the person above that mentioned "Paradise/The Guns of Paradise" I totally had forgotten that one!
Also - does anyone remember "Wildside" (1985)? It was only one for a few episodes, mainly because it was up against the Cosby show back in the day, but I loved that show too. It was another chance for William Smith to shine.
or
"Legend" (1995) with Richard Dean Anderson?
Have Gun, Will Travel
The Wild, Wild West
The Rifleman
Rawhide
Gunsmoke (esp the older, B&W episodes)
Cheyenne
The Lone Ranger
Also of note was a sadly, short-lived series in 1995 with Richard Dean Anderson and John de Lancie called Legend. Only 12 episdes. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0112045/?ref_=nm_flmg_act_15
Never really cared for Bonanza--it was often too preachy and plots that were more suited for the 1960s. Favorites were the ones with Arthur Hunnicutt and Dan Blocker in the "Walter" episodes.
Cheyenne..........Clint Walker a real living American hero.
