Best Western series ever, your fave?
For me, it's Cheyenne. Then, Bonanza and Gunsmoke.

Have Gun Will Travel--iconic character, everything fit into a neat 25 minute package. But the main plus, not often mentioned, shooting on location.

1 Bonanza A huge body of work that had it all
2 Gunsmoke Gotta love the Marshall
3 Rawhide Young Clint Eastwood, and other regulars were great
4 Wagon Train A new personal story with each episode
5 Cheyenne, Maverick, Bronco, Have Gun Will Travel and all the rest
Rawhide featured mostly outdoor action, including lots of cattle, even stampedes. Back then, most of the westerns would put a comedic episode in every so often, and I loved them the best.
With advanced age and maturity, (three years on) I'm changing my list.
Besides, I've recently gotten hooked on "The Virginian", which for some reason I never watched when it was originally aired. It may have been too mature for me then.

I always looked forward to Have Gun Will Travel during it's run, and I'd also like to give a speical mention to "The Rebel", with a young, handsome, and enigmatic Nick Adams.
CIMARRON STRIP is my favorite hands down. The BEST, and NOBODY sits a horse like Stuart Whitman!!

I'm from Blighty, and if I had the funding I'd start a satellite station catering exclusively for old westerns, both features and TV. I guess the biggest hurdle would be the rights to some of them. If only......!!!!
In '81 I had the massive pleasure of meeting Charlie Bronson on a film set in LA. RIP, Charlie. You were truly one of the greats and a damned underrated actor.

Maverick - loved James Garner; thought he was way cool
Wagon Train - liked Ward Bond and Robert Horton
Rawhide - liked Clint Eastwood
Cheyenne - liked Clint Walker
The Lone Ranger - was it on every afternoon? I know I watched it a lot

For me, it's "Wild Wild West". I was too young for the classic WB westerns. We didn't have a color TV til "Bonanza" was almost done. And Matt Dillon never thrilled me, though I enjoy him now in reruns. The 60s were not chock-a-block full of westerns by the time I started watching TV. Maybe that's why I gravitated towards WWW. It was one of the few oaters I enjoyed that didn't bite the dust after only a couple seasons, like "Laredo" and "High Chapparal". I also liked that West was always facing weird villains, just like the man who inspired his character, James Bond. How could a 007 fan not watch?
PS Does "F Troop" count as a WB western?
