Kirsten Dunst couldn't act her way out of a snuff film and you don't even have to be alive to do that!

reply

Yes to Kirsten Dunst and no to the others.

Did you also go to the Louvre and think, "Gee, I'd love to see the Mona Lisa re-done by Damien Hirst" ?

When are you slobbering re-make-a-philes going to GET it? Movies that work, work because something unique and dazzling happens between between material, director, and cast. Attempts to re-create the magic invariably fail.

Not to mention that all classic movies are set in an extremely different society, one in which a woman's role was so alien to modern sensibilities that virtually nothing in a classic translates into today's world. Plus, media changes in the past 20-30 years have numbed us to what was an enchanting idea back then (= become famous for being well-known rather than for accomplishing something noteworthy).

If you are 17 years old or younger, maybe -- maybe -- you can be forgiven for having this asinine idea about re-making classic movies. If you're 18 or older, you are in serious need of some remedial education in the realms of politics (gender roles, civil rights), art, and, uh, everything else.

Too right.. and I love Born Yesterday simply because it is so anti-modern. Nobody remembers Judy Holliday today yet in her early 50s movies she was a constant delight, and consistently sexier than Monroe who was ersatz and phoney by comparison
