Disgustisng Peck too old

I LOLed when the Princess in Joe's bed while half asleep said how she saw a young man last night describing Joe. Dude was 40 years old, who are they kidding. Peck's character came off as a perverted stalker when he was following her around the city. sick.

Actually, Peck was 36 during production and Hepburn was 23. Right now, Jude Law is 36 and Mischa Barton is 23. If those two were to play a couple, would it be disgusting, perverted, and sick? If so, and if 36 really is old, I had better start cherishing my youth a little more, because I only have 8 years of being young left.

And if you thought Peck's character came off as a perverted stalker, you really were not paying attention. He initially was following her around because he wanted an exclusive story with the Princess, not because he wanted to do a little of the ol' in-out with her. They had a good day together and they kissed. He saw her as a person as opposed to a story and did not write it.

In reality, Audrey Hepburn's first husband, Mel Ferrer was 12 years her senior. Her lover, William Holden, was 11 years her senior. Cary Grant, Fred Astaire, Humphrey Bogart, Rex Harrison, and Gary Cooper were all her leading men and all substantially older than she was. George Peppard, Bill Holden, and Gregory Peck were reasonably within her age range. Peter O'Toole, Sean Connery, and Albert Finney were all younger

reply

Christ. I'm 23 and if mysteriously woke up in a 36-year-old Gregory Peck's bed, I would have thought some miracle had occurred. Besides. Ann didn't seem as if she was telling Joe to go away

reply

Don't bother. The original poster has nothing better to do than to hide behind his keyboard and write negative crap in order to get attention to his no doubt, dull and mundane life.
Check out some of his other posts. He is what we call in hockey, a *beep* disturber."
I'd suggest to just ignore his idiocy and like most trolls, when they don't get attention, they eventually get bored and go bye bye.

You're quite stupid, aren't you?

Women were wetting themselves in the theaters over Peck during this part of his career. Young and old alike.

Acting, character demands, presence... he was perfectly cast, you dim-witted dolt.

reply

bravo.. aciolino.. bravo! you are quite right. I just finished watching it and Gregory Peck is ... welll.... just perfect as Joe Bradley!

reply

Of course, and thank you.

In my opinion, the Princess would NEVER have fallen for a typical "youth" of the day, say, someone in their twenties or so, unless they were of extraordinary character, charm, wit, and possessing a certain "nobility." What star can you think of who could have, in 1953, successfully pulled that off? Brando? Yeah right.

Our society has become so youth oriented that the civilized, cultured ADULT male has become...anathema.

reply

Ah, yes, the civilized cultured adult male who steals cameras from little girls.

Dreamy.

Really though, they were fine together. Me thinks if the OP were to watch Charade (1963) their head might explode. Cary Grant, no matter how old he really was at the time, looks ancient next to Audrey.

Greg Peck was just 13 years older than Audrey Hepburn and the idea that he was too old for the character he played is ridiculous -- the only thing more idiotic is the OP's declaration that he was a "stalker". That is an amazingly stupid thing to say, not justified by anything in the film.

The chemistry between them was perfect. It's a shame they never made another movie together, though they remained lifelong friends.

About Charade: Cary Grant was 25 years older than Audrey, and at the time of that film 59 years old. In fact, Cary himself thought he was too old for the part, and had the script rewritten accordingly: instead of having him chase after Audrey, as originally written, he had it reversed so that Audrey kept coming after him. This made Cary feel less silly in the role, given the fact that in real life he was old enough to be Audrey's father (though his character's age is never made explicit -- but clearly much older than Audrey's character, certainly).

Yeah but they still had great chemistry. I loved Charade.

In those days it was considered romantic for a well set up man in his 40s or 50s to pick up a young girl in her 20s.

Your future is all used up...

We're still wetting ourselves over Gregory Peck!

Wow, only three-and-a-half lines but the OP has accomplished to amaze me: too stupid to spell correctly, too stupid to watch and follow what's going on in a movie, too stupid to do some research before posting and risking coming off as a total moron. I've read a great many idiotic posts on IMDB, but this surpasses all with it's sheer amount of... stupidity.

I thought that Peck looked incredibly well for his 36 years on screen; not too old for Audrey.

Besides, compared to some of Ms Hepburn's other co-stars (e.g. Astaire, Bogart and Grant), Mr Peck seems positively youthful.

Edward may be a drop-dead gorgeous vampire but he doesn't compare to Harry!

reply

I agree, Peck didn't look way too old (whatever that really means) for Hepburn, especially compared to obvious age mismatches like the ones you mentioned. Not to mention Miss Hepburn at 23 (?) just acted/behaved beyond her age- so sophisticated and mature.

Troll. Don't waste your time feeding it.

reply

It usually tends to be the perverted people who see perversions in everything. I never once considered Joe Bradley to be a stalker. Of course he was stalking her, by the definition of the word, but it was to get a story. You might as well call all reporters stalkers. And Gregory Peck was still youthful looking and ridiculously good looking. He could be 50 and most young women would pick him over you, I'm sure.

^ That's right!

And sometimes it's better for the actors to have a bit of an age gap, if it means the chemistry will be great!

The movie may have been a dud if it wasn't for the amazing chemistry between the two of them :)

I'm 19 and I think Gregory Peck was hansome :) Very classic and suave :)

No wonder people try so hard to fight the ravages of old age. It's people with that kind of mentality that makes it seem like becoming older is a negative thing. I thought Gregory Peck was really handsome and he and Audrey were so cute together.
