Is it true that Kim Novak dubbed Doris Day's singing in this movie? I heard that Novak turned down the part but when she found out that Howard Keel and not Gordon McRae would play Bill, she changed her mind and asked Warner to cast her. Day was already signed so they compromised by letting Novak do the singing.

shareDoris' voice is unmistakable. The ONLY reason dubbing would be used is because she's doing so much action in the film, it's only practical to do so, as the singer would be so out of breath to do it properly. So it's probably dubbed, but by her own voice.
shareOf course Day's voice is dubbed. All voices in a movie musical are dubbed for technical reasons, but is laughable to think this is Kim Novak's voice.
In the first place, Novak's career didn't really get started until Picnic, 1955. Only after that would she have any clout about her roles. In the second place Novak was under contract at Columbia, Calamity Jane was made at Warner Brothers.
