Jesus wasn't crucified, says theologian after much research.

Contrary to how Jesus is shown being executed in the Hollywood Biblical epics of the 1950s, including “Quo Vadis”, it appears that, according to the theologian in the link below, he wasn't crucified after all, as there is no historical evidence that the Romans used that method of execution in first century Judea.

Wow! You know, it occurs to me that the research of this one dedicated theologian could end up overturning all of Christianity and usher humankind into a better, more enlightened, and more secular age!

reply

I haven't read the theologian's piece so I can't speak to his "research". Nevertheless, there is "historical" (extra-Biblical) evidence that there was crucifixion in use in the 1st Century: Tacitus and Josephus, for example, and simple Aristotelian logic (the historian's indispensable friend).

Btw, I find it hard to believe that "more secular" social prerogatives can help to "usher humankind" into a "better", "more enlightened" age.

Me too. You seem bright but you need a better sarcasm detector.

Maybe next Christmas.

You gotta admit the "sarcasm" is pretty subtle, but after your tip and a re-read . . . I get it! Thanks. 

underrated response ☝🏼

So exactly how did Jesus die according to this scholar?

reply

They locked him in a room and made him listen to rap for 24 hours. When they opened the door he was dead.

reply

The article cited is pure nonsense. I don’t want to get into a religion discussion, but there is undeniable proof that crucifixion occurred at that time.

Yeah, that is what I thought.

reply

Oh well. So it's a lie. Shocking.

reply

There is no historical evidence Jesus even existed, let alone was a supernatural being. It's just a story used to get across philosophical ideas, so there's no need to be picky about details.
