according to the commentary on the dvd this was the inspiration for the "radio bart" episode of the simpsons, season three

Yeah, they've admitted a few times that they took from billy wilder films. I know they mention on one commentary that they took things from The Fortune cookie.

There's been so many similar stories of those tragedies, I wouldn't have even snapped.

I don't remember the episode that well but I remember thinking it was based on 'The Well', released the same year as 'Ace'.
