Christmas Show

Was wondering what people think of the ILL Christmas ep (which has NEVER been syndicated with rest of the series, and was considered "lost" until 1990, when CBS first aired it after its initial 1956 broadcast).

I find it a rather mediocre offering. It's not particularly funny, although it's pleasant to watch the two couples decorate the tree. The flashback scenes are meh to me, as I don't care about the pregnancy arc. The barbershop quartet flashback is the funniest scene, with Ethel in drag and Ricky singing with his Cuban Irish accent.

Any other thoughts?

I was surprised to see it when it was "discovered". It's okay but not great. I never got the logic of sending the kid to bed so the adults could trim the tree. For my sisters and me, the tree trimming was one of the high points of the season.

I've often wondered why ILL was not partial to doing holiday episodes. I think this was the only one, right?

Yes. And as much as I feel "The Lucy Show" is inferior to ILL, the 1962 Christmas ep from the latter is actually much better than the ILL Xmas offering.

Yes, "The Lucy Show" Christmas Show was a lot better. It had some heart and feeling to it and it wasn't flashbacks.

I do like Fred butchering the tree.
