Would YOU Have Purchased a Bottle of Vitameatavegemin?
Assuming, of course, that Lucy completed the commercial SOBER, and was convincing that the drink was nutritious and "tasty too!"

share If she completed the commercial SOBER, I'd be tempted to purchase a bottle.
If she completed it like she did in rehearsal, I'd order a CASE! LOL
"Dear Sir, Please send me a case of Vittyviteemeatiemat. I'm having a big party on Saturday."
Did you ever wonder who they actually got to do the commercial? Lucy was in no condition to do it.
Probably some young girl that they rushed in, who was also a quick study and could learn the lines fast.
I personally would not order something that boasts it contains MEAT, yet was thick and gooey and also tasted "just like candy!". Yuck!!
I've never been in to health drinks or smoothies, in particular. When I was a kid, my Mom was always trying to get me to drink Ovaltine, stating it tasted just like hot chocolate (uh, no it didn't). My father loved Orange Julius, which I also thought was awful (eggs whipped with an orange drink in a blender...to make it foamy!). No, thanks.
Well...I was just considering the "meat" as protein.
If we are going to take it seriously, Lucy WAS selling a product in the 1950's. Considering what people knew then about nutrition, meat was a big selling item.
I've had some "health drinks" and smoothies. But I don't really care for them. I'd rather EAT food than drink it!
But what's wrong with Ovaltine? LOL I had it a few times as a kid. It was okay. But nothing I would buy today.
Ovaltine, to me, has a strong chalky taste. Its selling gimmick was/is that it's loaded with healthy stuff regular hot cocoa isn't. I have always found it awful tasting.
As far as Lucy, legend has it that she was really drinking apricot jelly. The stuff had to be thick in consistency, as Lucy really had to "control" that fluid throughout the second half of that ep.
Speaking of old products that
would not sell today: back in the late '70's, there was a daytime TV ad for Ayds Chocolates, marketed to help you lose weight!!! Needless to say, they are no longer in business!
P.S. watch the old commercial for Ayds candies on YouTube. Hilarious. Can you imagine a worse name for a product promising you you'll lose weight!??
From what I've read in a book about ILL, Lucy was drinking apple pectin, whatever the heck that is! Apparently it has the syrupy thick consistency which they needed.
Ayds! I admit I bought a box of those a long, long time ago. I would eat one or two as a late night snack because I was always worried about putting on a pound or two. But really! That name wouldn't go over today because of AIDS.
There was a similar product to Lucy's Vitameatavegamin in the sixties. I remember seeing a commercial for it while watching TV with my Gram. It was advertised on some show that she watched. Maybe Lawrence Welk?
It was a health tonic called Serutan. It supposedly had vitamins and minerals and gave you energy.
Their slogan was, "Serutan. Backwards it spells Natures."
I guess spelling was important in touting an energy tonic. LOL
I always wondered how those Ayds candies tasted. They were filled with an appetite supressant. Can you imagine if a kid got hold of a box and ate half the box at once? They'd probably get really sick.
I'm sure Ethel Mertz would've bought a box of AYDS! Can't imagine her limiting herself - judging by all that candy she put away in Palm Springs.
As for me, I eat a small early breakfast, a big lunch no later than 1:00, and then fast for the rest of the day (with the exception of Fresca with my nightly TV).
I can tell you from experience, they were little squares of bland chocolate tasting stuff.
I wish I could eat breakfast regularly. I don't have much of an appetite early in the morning. If I'm hungry, I'll have eggs and toast or hardboiled eggs.
Do they still make Fresca? lol I haven't been a regular soda drinker for years. Sometimes I like ginger ale when it's very hot. I'm always on the lookout for night time beverages because i get thirsty at night. I drink flavored water, decaf iced tea, etc.
NOPE
