The Cuba episode bothers me

Yes, Lucy made a fool of herself, but I thought the uncle really acted like huge prick. The minute he started ranting and raving about how Ricky shouldn't have married her, Ricky should've told him to go to hell. I'm glad his clothing and cigars were destroyed, served the fat fuck right.

Please go easy on me gbennett. :)

I agree with you (although your F-bomb is unnecessary, don't you think?).

This is one of my all-time least favorite episodes.

Not a favorite of mine either! It's okay, Lucy did her usual funny physical comedy, i.e.. rolling cigars. But the uncle was a major jerk! At the end, he finally "accepts" Lucy because of the great performance little Ricky turns in. He basically accepts Lucy because she has a great kid. Never mind accepting her for her own self.

It's also a very unfunny, instantly forgettable episode. Curious, too, because Mary Emery appears again as Ricky's
mother. Look how much funnier her first appearance is. Vast difference in laughs.

Also it's always kinda annoyed me a bit that the episode just contrives the importance of the uncle character out of nowhere. The episode more or less states that this guy was a major influence in Ricky's life and someone he strongly looked up to and admired...and yet this is the first and only time we hear about the guy. You'd think Ricky (or Lucy for that matter) would have mentioned him here or there given how important he apparently was.

Again gbennett, please keep it polite if you disagree.

reply

We dont know if it's the only time he is discussed, only what TV audiences hear. And Lucy should had been concerned about whether she accepted THEM, not obsessing over their approval of her (regardless of who was visiting whom)

However, it is hysterical to think a practical stranger would call you a big fat pig as they are being casually introduced; yeah, I can see why that would perturb him. ''Hello, so nice to meet you, (Si) you're a big fat pig"

reply

Well he was a big fat pig, even if Lucy only called him that accidentally. I can't think of a better way to describe him.

reply

Well if you want to get realistic, he probably should've suspected that she didn't know what she was saying in Spanish with that comment. But, hey, being fat is not really something to be judged so harshly; emotional/metabolic reasons for that too.

reply

That's true. He should've realized that Lucy's Spanish was pretty bad. I've spoken with people who learned English as a second language. They made plenty of mistakes. I too, have done the same when trying to speak in another language.
