God, the worst director's comment EVER!!

Who the hell had the bright idea of hiring a stuffy university professor to do the audio commentary? Drew Casper PLEASE DON'T DO ANOTHER COMMENTARY!!!! This guy is giving us a snoozerama lecture on the history of MGM while fifteen minutes of film passes by before he finally comments on what's happening on screen!! They have James Whitmore on the commentary and they actually let his scenes roll by while this boring professor blabs on... God, you wish Sterling Hayden would blast Drew Casper! This is another example of the goofs at Warner Bros. producing their DVDs on the cheap side. I bet some former college student of Drew Casper got a job to do the DVD and they hired the goof. This is insulting to John Huston to have such a lousy DVD and crappy extras. Someone should fire the DVD branch of Warner Bros. Their DVDs are the worst. Have you see the Maltese Falcon yet? Horrible!! One of the all-time greatest films and one of the worst DVDs. BOOOOOO Warner Bros!!

Dr. Casper sees a "lantern" as the railroad man holds a bottle of what this viewer assumes to be a bottle of glucose as Dix lays dying on a too short exam table. That observation pretty much sums up his effort.

Imagine what Eddie Muller or William Friedkin could have done with the opportunity to do a commentary track on one of the best films ever to come out of a Hollywood studio.

Totally agree with the Eddie Muller comment, I would have loved to hear his commentary on this film! I would recommend listening to his commentary on the "House on Telegraph Hill" DVD.

I listened to most of Dr. Casper's commentary, but I had to take a few breaks. He has a lot of interesting information, but a lot of it was something I'd rather read about. I'd rather hear a bit more about what I'm actually watching.

It's cool to see this thread though to see that others do actually listen to commentaries and it's not just me :)

Love it! Stick it to these motor mouth academic bores. I recently watched another classic film with a self-intoxicated idiot going on and on with no reference at all to the actual film being shown.
