Who's worse: Eve Harrington or Veda Pierce?
Who do you find more despicable, Eve or Veda (from Mildred Pierce)?

Veda! Although the book apparently makes her more of Mildred's creation (and therefore less cvulpable) the filmic Veda is a serpent; a scorpion who denounces everything except material gain at her mother's expense. Who sleeps with their mother's man???? At least Eve was leveraging sex towards the goal of realizing a genuine talent.
Eve is Little Bo Peep in comparison to Veda, imo.

Veda is way worse! She's screws over her own mother.
And i've been waiting for this moment, for all my life..
As much as I hated Eve (there is almost nothing worse than a hate-ful person trying to pass themselves off as sugary-sweet!), I go w/ Veda as more evil. After all her mother did for her, and all that Veda did back to her own mother! Seducing your mother's husband is about as evil & sick as you can get, but then murdering him and willing to let mom take the wrap for it is lower than anything Eve did.

I agree with the majority of the posters.
You know that the people Eve used in her climb to stardom would eventually rebound and land on their feet.
In fact, I think that had happened by the time of the award celebration.
But I don't believe that Mildred Pierce would EVER fully recover from her daughter's evil nature.
Veda - no contest, she was a bad seed pure and simple.

Definitely Veda! A selfish, spoiled brat resorting to murder to get what she wants and willing to let her own mother take the rap. She was horrible! Eve looks like a saint next to her!

I agree with most of the others as well Here's another comparison: Eve lies about her past in order to impress Margo and the others. Veda lies about being pregnant in order to receive money.

Veda was a demon not a human being!
shareYeah, you could never care for Veda - in fact, you could not even understand her motives. Of course, she wanted to make it big, to walk away from her small town and good mother. But it's not enough to become that kind of monster. To me, Eve was not inhuman- she was aloof, unable to love or be loved, incredibly full of talent... but behind that smart, resourceful facade, there was no one in the end. She couldn't be herself, so she was a terribly lonely person. That tragic side sort of rehabilitates her. Veda has not such excuse.

They're both awful, but the worse is Veda. A monster!
shareVeda by a MILE. Mildred Pierce is the movie that has gotten me more up in arms over a film than anything I've ever watched, and I have never hated any character on screen more than Veda, including murderers, pedophiles, sociopaths, and Nazis. Mildred Pierce had me yelling at my screen at that EVIL daughter and her WEAK (when it comes to Veda) mother. Eve is an ambitous b*tch, but Veda is a sociopathic terror
shareVeda! Because she's a murderess!
shareEve was "Little Miss Evil", but Veda was worse. She was much more ruthless than Eve was.
Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain.

Well, I would have to say Veda, because--if for no other reason--Ann Blyth could act rings around the overrated Anne Baxter!
shareVeda....by several lengths.
Most of her crimes were committed against her own MOTHER, who never really did anything horrible to her, except to spoil and overindulge her. Eve, at least targeted relative strangers. And was, I suppose, a talented actress.
In the book, though, Veda did have a singing talent/career. In the movie, she was just a lazy spoiled brat, who only sang at Wally's club because she wasn't being financially supported.
