What is 'that word'?

Anyone else curious what "that word" was that Mrs. Muir didn't want to type while they were writing the book?

If the word she typed was "*beep*" as many of you are suggesting, this begs the question of how many Victorian-era best-sellers actually contained that word. If there are none, then I doubt that was the word.

I want it to be the f-word, too, because he asked her what she uses to describe "it", and then proceeds to describe, to me, what sounded like visiting a prostitute.
