This writer is of the opinion that Basil Rathbone was the greatest portrayer of Sherlock Holmes.I came to that conclusion after seeing him in the two period films he and Nigel Bruce did at Twentieth Century Fox in 1939.
These films are:The Hound Of The Baskervilles and The Adventures Of Sherlock Holmes.

Basil Rathbone is the very best Sherlock Holmes by far, nobody, and I mean nobody even comes close to his portraying of the great detective.

lol if we're talking about most accurate portrayal of the Holmes character, it's Jeremy Brett hands down. Rathbone didn't come close in that aspect, though he wasn't a bad Holmes himself.
