‘Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah’ song from racist film removed from Disneyland parade

Though it’s one of Disney’s catchiest melodies, “Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah” originates from one of the entertainment company’s most shameful films, “Song of the South.”

Following a national reckoning prompted by the killing of George Floyd in 2020, Disneyland announced plans to re-imagine Splash Mountain, a popular ride that features imagery and themes from the racist 1946 film, ensuring the song’s days in the Disney oeuvre were numbered.

Now, the twice-daily Magic Happens parade, which reopened Feb. 24 after a three-year hiatus because of the pandemic, has quietly been altered to remove the “Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah” tune and instead includes a song from “Peter Pan.”

So what? Nobody goes to Disneyland to hear that song. It will not be missed.

Times they are a-changin'

For the worse in every way I can think of! What would the Conservative Disney have made of this PC degeneration?

Hey I can turn that frown upside down!

This country has at least 40% less violent crime than it did in the 90's.

The world is 40% safer than it was 30 years ago! How awesome is that?!

Besides It's never 'worse' to be kinder or to apologize and try to think of other people's feelings.

Attitudes have changed for the worse.

ZIP A DOO DEE DA; WE WERE FOUNDED BY A PEDO NAZI; BUT NOW WE ARE JUST PEDOS; BECUASE REASONS: HAVE GOOD DAY

reply

Oh, please! “Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah” deservedly won an Oscar. There is nothing racist about this cute, innocent little song. Now, "What Makes the Red Man Red?" from Peter Pan--THAT'S the most racist Disney song!

reply

What does?

reply

See if you can find the song on YouTube or someplace.

Thanks, so now you know.

I personally find small clips from several old disney movies to be more racist than this whole movie that is deemed as racist. I can agree with the song from Peter Pan, it sounds cool but the lyrics and visuals are.... really something.

The mainstream has forgotten the film, except for the politics involved, and nobody under the age of 60 has even seen the damn thing unless they've tried very hard. So it's not like the song is going to have any meaning to a modern audience of Disneyland attendees, except as the Disney parade song, modern crowds are far more likely to gush with nostalgia if they hear "A Whole New World" instead.

So while I won't say there's no political motivation behind this decision, I will say that it's not an entirely political decision - it's a practical one.

I would like to see it! It shouldn't be banned. I want to decide for myself what I think of it, not a bunch of videos telling me what to think. Even if it's removed from disneyland, people will still go on the internet and listen to the song on their own if they want.

It's a wonderful day! There's sunshine! And bluebirds!

Yeah, straight from Hitler. Literally!

Erasure of the black character, Uncle Remus by bigots working for Disney!
