Remake?

This movie needs to be remade!

reply

Why?

reply

I think that would be a possible cast:
Charlize Theron as Gilda
Johnny Depp as Johnny Farrell
Tom Cruise as the casino owner a.k.a. Ballin Mundson

Probably directed by Robert Rodriguez.

The plot would be transferred from the 1940s South America to the 2000s Middle East.

There would be some explicit sexual scenes as well as lots of graphic violence.

If this remake would have this scenes, it might be rated R by the MPAA's rating board.

Hey dude, are u living some new middle ages????
Since your postings are available on the net and i started from your unbelievable decalogue of the reasons why people shouldnt see Sex and The City, i guess u shouldnt use the IMDB board at all if everything u write is like that, what the *beep* are u? Cato the Censor? the pope's playwright?
keep cool!!

reply

Gilda remade? Uh.

I think that the orriginal is perfect, and far more electrifying then any of the films we have today.

Were would there be sex scenes in this film?

After all when Johhny comes in this is were he discovers that Gilda is there, Gilda doesn't sleep with any of the men its all an act, and Johhny doesn't have sex with Gilda to punish her, si were would the sex scenes come in.

Besides this film doesn't need sex scenes, Gilda is enough.

That's absolutely bonkers! It would be a travesty if anyone tried to remake this! It's a classic!

No, it doesn't need to be remade, and there certainly could be no Gilda better than Hayworth, but today of course they could emphasize the underlying "love triangle" aspect of the story more openly, if not necessarily explicitly - although Johnny had an affair with Gilda, it preceded the starting point of the film and we don't know it until after he's hooked up with Ballin; it's kind of obvious that now he's got something going on with Ballin - Gilda re-enters the picture and, well. . .a not-particularly-happy little menage a trois. Despite the Production Code, they did manage to get certain things across in films back then: Think of Elisha Cook Jr. as Wilmer and Sidney Greenstreet as Gutman in MALTESE FALCON, and the subtle references to Peter Lorre as Joel Cairo.

There's nothing wrong with Theron, she's probably one of the Lexus (Lexi?) of Hollywood right now. But to compare her to Hayworth is to compare a Lexus to a Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost. Comparison? there is none...
Furthermore, Ballin and Johnny had been in an affair before Gilda, and Cruise will never play a gay man.
Finally, there is no reason, to remake Gilda, none whatsoever. And given the state of movies and movie-makers right now there are a very great number indeed of reasons not to. Let us pray one of the whiz-kids of La-La land never stumbles onto this thread. This simply does not need the desecration of a nine-figure budget combined with a two-figure I.Q.

no.stop.this is bad very, very, very, bad. Gilda should never be remade its a crime to humanity. bad, bad, bad, bad. its like saying lets go remake gone with the wind or casablanca.your a lunatic.

reply

gilda doesn't need to be remade, hollywood just needs to come up with some original ideas instead of resorting to bad hash-ups of classic films. and as for sex and violence? nooooo! would u remake The Sound of Music with gunfights purely because it has nazis in it? didnt think so. and johnny depp would be soooooo out of place in gilda - johnny farrell is meant to be a young guy, so someone like jake gyllenhaal would be good for the role. charlize as gilda sounds good, but i cant help but think nicole kidman is the only actress around who could pull it off. and tom cruise? the man cant act!

reply

Oh don't even think it. They ruin this film and I'll boycott Hollywood for good.

...i don't think it needs to be re-made and although the actors mentioned are talented they are by no means up there with hayworth and ford....they just don't have that magic ...

reply

remake of gilda? that is fking blasphemy. you sir have lost your rights to think for yourself. no more out of you.

reply

Please NO remake of the unique GILDA!
However, a professionally restored GILDA by the guys of Criterion (for instance) would be my proposal!

And what do we expect of a BLUE-Ray GILDA DVD?

I would never like to see a remake of this movie being made but in the off chance that it did have to happen, I think Scarlett Johansson could possibly pull of the lead. Actually there is one scene in the movie where Gilda is gambling in the casino where she even looks quite a bit like Scarlett. On looks alone, I'd go for Kelly Brook. She looks like she bases her whole look on Hayworth's Gilda anyway. hmm, but bottom line I hope there is no remake.

Yeah. NO remake. Its perfect as it is. Why do people only like movies if there are sex scenes? No...no way. No one could ever be as good as Rita and Glenn.

Men are like pennies; two-faced and worthless

reply

No freaking way! Why on Earth should this film be remade?!? It's perfect the way it is. Nobody but Rita Hayworth could ever be Gilda. Why ruin a great film? Hollywood needs to leave the classics alone!!!!

"The movie needs to be remade."

Oh, Dear God, NO! Today's Hollywood would ruin the film! There's a reason why certain films have lasted years and years without being remade: because they're perfect the way they are.

reply

Nearly all remakes are major flops, so that should tell you something: remakes suck. Period. Just stick to the classics; released them on DVD completely remastered. If a remake is ever made of this movie or any other classic, I'll boycott it. I had the misfortune to watch the remake of Sabrina on cable. Compared to the original, it's freakishly horrible. So please, no remakes.
