I think Martha Vickers was better looking than Becall and should have had the larger role. I've just never found Lauren Becall all that attractive. She's not ugly, I just don't get the big deal about her. Vickers was much better looking.
shareMartha Vickers looked like a cross between Rita Hayworth and Bette Davis. Nothing special by Hollywood standards in my opinion. But the 19 year old Lauren Bacall in ' To Have and Have Not ' was an absolute stunner.
I read somewhere that Vickers was actually overshadowing Bacall in their scenes together, so they cut out a lot of footage of her so Bacall would still come across as the leading lady in the final product.
