Pretty darn fantastic if you ask me!

This is no doubt a solid film but the main character was a bit obsessed with Stella Meredith while I quickly became fascinated by Gail Russell, the actress playing the role. At first I was simply spellbound by her beauty and was impressed by her acting yet she gave me an eerie feeling. Then I read about her tragic life. How can such a beautiful, promising young lady annihilate herself with vodka? Very strange and sad. Anyways, the movie looks good, it has an interesting ghost story that unravels well in the end yet it’s always approached in somewhat of a playful manner and the actors make it all work very well. This movie is better than Psycho, Vertigo and House on haunted hill. Yeah I said it. My rating: 8/10

I enjoyed this. I thought the main performances were effective. The characters were fairly interesting and I was curious to see where the story went. It loses a little steam towards the end and the resolution of the mystery isn't completely satisfactory, but it is still a worthwhile journey. The cinematography is beautiful. The film has a romantic gothic atmosphere that works well. Production and set design are wonderful. 7/10

My favourite haunted house movie of all. I was so pleased when they finally released it on DVD a few years back. The crying in the night scene is real goosebumps stuff. As much as I love The Haunting (1963), House on Haunted Hill (1959), and The Changeling (1980), this tops them all for me. 10/10

It was very sad the way Gail Russell's life turned out. She was beautiful in this.
