Why Dont They Remake This One?

I would like to see a remake of this movie, with Hugh Jackman as the song and dance man. Anyone think it would work? I love Jimmy Cagney movies, I wish they would either release Yankee Doodle Dandy and Angels With Dirty Faces on Blueray, or remake them. Would have to be better content, than some of the drivel that passes for entertainment today.

Because Michael Curtiz is dead. That's just my way of slipping the astounding Mr Curtiz into the conversation. He seems to have been omitted throughout the discussion.

Hear, hear. For a director of so many classics, he seems to get short shrift.

No, no, and no. It is perfect, why mess with perfection?

REMAKE!!?? Very few times, in cinematic history, has a remake EVER came close to the original. While you may use the same title, the same screenplay, and even (if possible) the same locations, there is one thing you CANNOT, and will never, remake. The feeling, and depth, of the people involved in the original production. Would you also call for a 'remake' of the "Mona Lisa"? The Parthenon? The Sistine Chapel ceiling? The statue entitled "David"? The Washington Monument? The Lincoln Memorial? No, you do not remake 'classics'.

Don't even think of it till you can find another Cagney.
You can't!
