Betty Field and Ann Sheridan

Is it just me or do Betty Field and Ann Sheridan's characters in this film look like sisters? Of course we never see them side by side, but to me they kind of look alike.

reply

Agreed. At first I thought Betty Field WAS Ann Sheridan done up with special makeup, hair color etc. It wasn't until Ms. Sheridan actually appeared on screen did I realize my mistake.

Yes, it is amazing how retarded some people can be!

reply

That's not a very kind thing to say. Anyone can make a mistake or confuse people.

I came on here after only seeing the first half hour (didn't get to see Ann Sheridan in this one but do know what she looks like) and thought they had the names confused for who played Cassie! Yes, they do look so much alike, I'd almost say they could be twins!

reply

OMG! My sisters and I were discussing the very same thing and wondered why the heck the casting director,(or director for that matter) decided to use 2 actresses in the same movie playing different parts and characters, who looked SO MUCH alike?! I was confused for a bit, because I had no idea that Ann Sheridan and Betty Field resembled each other so much until this movie, they definately could have played sisters in a film. Go figure.

Just watched this movie for the lst time. Like the majority on this thread, I had the same impression that Ann Sheridan was playing 2 roles, made up to look like the young Cassidy, then being herself as Randy. Indeed there was a resemblance between the two actresses.

LOL, same here. I saw it last night for the first time and, since I'm not familiar with Ms. Fields' looks, not even the name, I was 100% sure that Cassie was played by Ann Sheridan and then, during the farewell at the train station scene, when the "actual" Ms. Sheridan appears, I got really confused, like "why use the same actress for both roles???", or "Wasn't Cassie really dead and she was trying to hide from Parris for some reason?".

I have seen this movie many times through the years. Every time I watch it I am amazed how Field and Sheridan, indeed, could pass for twins. Then I always have the second thought, "Why did the director cast the movie that way?" It does seem odd.

When they nominate you for Troll Of The Year", you will have my vote. What a cruel, unprovoked and mean-spirited comment.

I always get Betty Field mixed up with with Claire Trevor but I don't think Betty Field and Ann Sheridan look alike.

This positively infantile preoccupation with bosoms!Terry-Thomas about US 1963.Hasnt changed much!

Yes, for a second while watching I was wondering if it was supposed to be a film as one person masquerading as another.
