WHY DO MILLENIALS NOT GET THIS GREAT FILM?

I am constantly disappointed and angered when some 27 year old who doesn't know Bogart from Gable says to me, "I watched Casablanca. It was so boring."

How can this be? It is there lack of a proper education. (many do not know who fought in WWII) or their lack of attention spans or is it the inability to appreciate the subtleties of the acting and characters?

I haven't read anyone's comments yet, but I am a millennial.

I just watched this film today for the first time, and I loved it.

It is a great film, but then movies are a pretty personal thing anyhow....like food.

And while the OP's generalization about millennials was unfair -- good for you. I can actually understand why the movie would seem slow and boring to many given the trend in mainstream movies. Current ones have far less character and plot development. And scenes are far shorter....unless they involve action.

And we are all a product of what we grow up with. Includes me. Not like I have ever gone out of my way to check out the classics of the silent era.

Millennials are morons plain and simple. Look at most of their political views and meltdowns after the election.

I teach a three year - 10th to 12th grade - film history course, and find that many of my pupils, even the ones with the highest motivation, have trouble simply following the plot. They've lost the ability to follow anything longer than a few minutes, without being told what exactly is happening. The simple ability, which we take for granted, to understand how THIS SCENE is connected to the LAST SCENE, becomes a problem

I just need more patience with them, and spend more time teaching them basic film literacy, before I can talk about other matters of the medium.

What can be asserted without evidence can also be dismissed without evidence.

As a 22 year old film lover, I personally just think they walked into the wrong gin joint..

reply

Though, those who were born during this millennium should not be walking into any gin joints yet anyway.
