Best of the quotes from Casablanca

The last quote from the movie is my favorite " Louie I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship".

What are you gonna do? Kill me? Every body Dies. John Garfield (Body and Soul)

Rich - There is certainly a "rich " vein of quotable quotes, lol. In addition to the others, I want to add.

I was in a German concentration camp for a year. That's honor enough for a lifetime.

I think it's time for me to flatter Major Strasser.

We haven't decided if he committed suicide, or died while escaping.

That is the reason we permit you to stay open. I thought it was because we let you win at roulette . Without missing a beat, Claude Rains says, that is another reason.

I am here with my husband too. Captain Renault is getting broad minded.

You despise me, don't you Rick? I probably would if I gave you any thought.

We will be there at 6. I will be there at 10.

My favorite already mentioned - I am shocked, shocked to find that gambling is going on here!

The perfect movie to me.

Nice !

"Ohhhh...Rick...but what about Paris?"
"I wouldn't bring up Paris if I were you. It's poor salesmanship."

"What if the Germans come for you?"
"I left a note in my apartment. They'll know where to find me."

I'm not crying, you fool, I'm laughing!

Hewwo.

There are so many great quotes in this movie, I don't know were to start, but my favorite is "Here is looking at you kid".

Everybody censors, including you.

How about this:

What kind of man is Captain Renault?

Oh, he's like any other man; only more so.

You remark, "'There are so many great quotes in this movie, I don't know were to start, but my favorite is "Here is looking at you kid'".

The correct quotation is "Here's looking at you, kid." That's how the dialogue is transcribed on my DVD of the film.

reply

You are right, thanks. Although IMDb has two versions in the Quotation section.

Everybody censors, including you.

reply

Coincidentally, I just posted saying how could they leave that quote out.

Major Strasser's been shot.......round up the usual suspects.

Didn't see this one mentioned:

Ugarte: Rick, think of all the poor devils who can't meet Renault's price. I get it for them for half. Is that so... parasitic?
Rick: I don't mind a parasite. I object to a cut-rate one.

Even better in my opinion:

Ugarte: You despise me Rick, don't you?

Rick: If I gave you any thought at all, I probably would.

Cutting and dismissive at the same time, brilliant!

Best of the quotes from Casablanca - richsass

Renault (to Rick): I like to think you killed a man. It's the romantic in me.

Edited to add: Oh, and my current signature quote too:

------------------
"We hear very little, and we understand even less." - Refugee in Casablanca

"This place is full of vultures, vultures everywhere!"

To be honest it's not so much the line but the delivery. The actor says it in an incredibly unique way. And it was already mentioned but I have to mention it again because I love it:

"What watch?"
"10 watch."
"Such much?"

Even better is that while he's saying it, he's picking the gentleman's pocket. Later on, right before the "10 watch" scene, he bumps into Karl, who quickly and urgently checks to see he hasn't been picked (he hasn't, and nods to himself. Lovely momen).

"Are you one of those people who cannot picture the Germans in his beloved Paris?"
"It's not particularly my beloved Paris."
"Can you picture us in London?"
"Ask me when you get there."

In case anyone didn't notice, that second German looked surprisingly Japanese.

Major Strasser makes a comment about Rick appearing to be just another "blundering American." Renault replies, "I wouldn't underestimate American blundering. I was with them when they blundered into Berlin in 1918."

As many times as I have watched the movie, a most interesting new angle.

And even when the thing was filmed....seemed they had down the Italians were all bluster based on the scene when one is talking to the lower-end French guy outside the bar. Not sure of the exact timing, but by the time that scene was shot they might have known what happened in North Africa with the Italians versus the British before Rommel stepped in.
