Bambi vs. WallE

Last year I watched Wall-E and thought it was a near perfect film. For its plot, deep themes, and easy watchability despite the sparse dialogue, it struck me as brilliant ... and I haven't even mentioned that Wall-E somehow ended up being one of the best romantic stories I've seen in years (animated or otherwise).

Last night I watched Bambi for the first time as an adult and was blown away. I loved the symmetry of the opening and closing scenes. Has any movie ever told the story of growing up better? With fun, heartache, love, death. All of the things that turn us from free spirited kids to responsible adults are in this movie. Bambi truly is the story of life. Unbelievable.

These have to be the two best animated films ever made. I just can't decide which is better!

I loved them both, but for me Bambi is better. I grew up with Bambi, and to this day it is still one of my all time favourite Disney films, and one of my favourite movies ever.

Bambi is in a league all itself. To me its in a tie with Pinnochio as the greatest animated movie ever made.

I have to agree with Leopard on this.

While Bambi is my clear favorite, I can accept as a matter of differing tastes anyone who chooses to go with Pinnochio.

That being said, those two films are in a class of their own. No other Disney film, or animated film for that matter, come close. WallE was a great film; so was Beauty and the Beast and The Little Mermaid. But while these films were all good, they were all "Disney films"; While enjoyable, you could never quite shake the felling that you're watching a Disney animated film. Whereas Bambi and Pinnochio are cinematic masterpieces in their own right. Not just for a Disney film or an animated film. When you watch Bambi you completely forget you're watching a "Disney film".

Sadly, I can't choose one over the other any more easily. Disney and Pixar are both revolutionaries in that they both pushed the envelope on the boundaries of animation. Through the artistic ambitions and creativity of their respective teams, they told stories that were beautiful, brilliant, and moving.

To me, films like Wall-E, Ratatouille, and Up are to Pixar in its first generation what Bambi, Fantasia, and Pinocchio were to Walt Disney Pictures in its early years. They are stories that transcend all other experiences and stand well within their own league as masterpieces of fiction and animation.

Absolutely the way I feel.

The first half of Wall-E is enchanting. All of Bambi is.

No competition. Bambi RULES!.. I was a bit disappointed by WALL-E. It was good in the beginning but then it became a bit too Hollywood for me.

Bambi is a timeless film 70 FREAKING YEARS after it was made...

You really can not compare a CLASSIC like Bambi to something like Wall.E!
Bambi is absolutley breathtaking and memorable for all these years and many
more to come where as Wall.E just.. isnt.
Anyway Bambi would win everytime obviously, the WORK and DETAIL in Bambi
far surpasses that of Wall.E.

I thought I told you,
this world is not for you..
