A movie nobody remembers?

If so, it is a shame. It is a beautifully told story with notable actors: Fred MacMurray, Barbara Stanwyck, and Beulah Bondi. A man bailing out a shoplifter so that she doesn't have to spend her Christmas in jail...a very good theme for a Christmas movie. Is there anybody else out there who knows of this splendid movie?

Apart from the very, very, very dumb first 10 or so minutes featuring some astounding goofiness, there´s nothing really wrong with it at all. Particularly remarkable is how the film honestly earns any possible - probable, rather - sentimental reaction it might get from the viewer instead of going for cheap manipulation and tearjerking one would expect from a film like this. The script´s pretty consistently witty & surprisingly mature and the more I see of Stanwyck the more I like her. Almost as good a movie as The Lady Eve.

One reason nobody remembers is because of the horrible title: "Remember the Night". It's innocuous and bland. I had a video tape of this movie and I could never find it because I could never remember the title. So I relabeled it "Home in Indiana" and I was always able to find it after that.

You may look at it as a movie no one remembers, but I look at it as a movie no one has heard of.

Like Holiday Affair, which I now have watched every year for maybe the past ten, thanks to Turner Classics this treat was introduced to me last year. I can say after this year, if I get to live the next ten, it'll be in double feature nights with Holiday Affair. They make a pretty good team for a late December viewing night!

I first saw this years ago at the AFI theater in Washington and remember liking it then. But each time I've seen it since I find myself liking it even more. It really is a wonderful movie - too bad about the title.

I just watched this film for the first time. It's a splendid film on par with It's A Wonderful Life.

There are films that actors take simply for the paycheck, and those they take because they believe in it. "Remember the Night" is one of the later.
