This is getting more and more ridiculous!

Seriously! When will they stop?

reply

When other people stand up and oppose them. It will require courageous individuals.

reply

True. It is ironic though that they find the name Rhett so offensive, when he was one of the few male characters in the novel to not belong to the KKK.

reply

And the character trying to earn Mammie's respect thru the entire
movie.

reply

Yes, that too. But I don't believe that the complainers have actually watched the movie.

reply

yes

reply

You think these complainers care about reality?

Anything they think will empower their worthless existences they’ll exploit.

reply

Does the movie mention or show Rhett owning slaves?

reply

No. Neither does the novel. Rhett was a gambler and speculator, so he'd have no need.

reply

Were they really in the KKK?

Rhett reminds me (or the vv way) of Bret Maverick (or his brother).

reply

They were in the book, but the stuff about the KKK was downplayed in the movie.
So it seems that even back in 1939, the KKK would not be given a positive portrayal by Hollywood.

reply

Except in "The Birth of a Nation"?

reply

That was made in 1915.
New people must have become in charge by 1939.

reply

No, Rhett belonged to the KKK in the book, and after Scarlett was attacked he joined the terrorist group that went out and attacked some poor people that happened to be squatting nearby. That was presumably a KKK group, although Mitchell never came out and said so because she had at least some decency.

reply

Okay, I guess I must admit that I never read they book.
I was only repeating what I read about it.

reply

I don’t recall the book saying Rhett was in the Klan. Where does it say that?

reply

It doesn't.

reply

Universities is where the rot of the snowflake mentality began, people really need to grow a pair. I wonder what non offensive name they’ll change it to? 🙄

reply

My god, to the people continuing to do this, and the people supporting things like this, I know you probably don’t have a job, or many meaningful things to value in your life, which gives you all the time in the world to sit there being miserable, and finding “offensive” things you want to ban, but seriously, enough is enough...GET A LIFE!!!

To all of you out there constantly bitching about names, statues, movies, children’s TV shows...you’re unbelievably pathetic! Most of the country sees you as a joke, but I guess a lot of people are afraid to lose their jobs in this extreme political climate by calling you the pathetic worms that you actually are, and telling you where to shove it! You suck, and everybody hates you!

Compare two generations: the WWII Gen that defeated two fearsome empires and went on to put a man on the moon - and this generation whose only accomplishments will be to knock down statues of those who actually achieved something.

reply

I know people who named their kids Scarlett and Rhett.

reply

Well, that is not unusual.
There can be big purges on a website during a year.

reply

What is really ridiculous is having now to call "hemoglobin" "theymoglobin"

reply

You don’t have to. Do not knuckle under to tyrants.

reply

This is their stop ten? The Beatles' best song is Strawberry Fields Forever? What a joke! This is a terrible list. Only liberals could make such a shoddy list.

10. Outkast: "Hey Ya!"

9. Fleetwood Mac: "Dreams"

8. Missy Elliott: "Get Ur Freak On"

7. The Beatles: "Strawberry Fields Forever"

6. Marvin Gaye: "What’s Going On"

5. Nirvana: "Smells Like Teen Spirit"

4. Bob Dylan: "Like a Rolling Stone"

3. Sam Cooke: "A Change Is Gonna Come"
