You know what's really depressing?

That if it were made today, the director would be asked to cut it down to less than 2 hours. That is, if it even gets financed.

People complained about The Irishman being too long!

I gotta say though - the movie is too long. I tried to watch in one sitting, and I couldn’t take it

Have you watched many of the other old epics -- Lawrence of Arabia, Ben-Hur, The Ten Commandments, Spartacus, Cleopatra, etc?

I once read that 45 minutes give or take were cut from the film. Of course, the old expression "left on the cutting room floor" meant exactly that. Unfortunately.

The cut footage was literally scrapped. It's almost a crime it wasn't preserved - imagine a "director's cut" with the restored footage.

If it were made today, they wouldn't permit it to be made during the Civil War. I can't imagine how they would butcher it to meet the present day agendas.

reply

Totally agree, somehow the people have lost all historical perspective.

reply

I'd say it could go three hours.
