THE COLORIZED DVD!

I was very suprised. It was very well done and the print was beautiful.Unlike some of the bad colorization jobs in the 1980s (It's A Wonderful Life, and a few others!) I honestly forgot it was colorized and thought I was watching an early technicolor film at times. They did a great job and include the restored B&W print as well. For $9.99 I got a color copy, and a B&W print that rivals Criteron's.

I enjoy the colorized version so that I can see the deco furnishings - just beautiful - not overdone set dressing - just lovely.

Colorization ruins the movie for me. I refuse to watch a black and white movie colorized. I have both versions on the DVD of It's a Wonderful Life, I tried watching it in color and just couldn't. It is altering the director's intended version of the film.

I wouldn't want to own a DVD that was "just" a colorized version of a vintage film but this DVD release was perfect: a beautiful restored B&W print and as a "bonus feature" of a extremely well done colorization print. Colorizaton has come a long way from the garish jobs done in the 1980's and early 1990's when nearly everybody hated them. I still don't think it will work on most B&W films but for a film like GODFREY it's a nice little bonus. Colorization's (deserved) bad rap for past examples won't allow for it to happen very often today though; it's usually done on just public domain titles now with the exceptions of Shirley Temple films and certain vintage tv shows.

I doubt there is any difference. They do have different UPC codes; maybe they were manufactured by different companies for Legend Films. Mine is the "2008" with the color banner at the top of the picture sleeve. I've noticed a few other movies that Amazon has listed twice on their website which appear to be duplicate editions (don't mean p.d. titles). Sometimes they cover has been changed (DRUMS ALONG THE MOHAWK, the two movie IMITATION OF LIFE set). The crazy thing is the prices are different!
