Dracula (1931)

dracula 1931 is based on the 1924 stage play Dracula by Hamilton Deane and John L. Balderston which is loosely based on the novel. Bela Lugosi had been in the stage play long before the movie and the reason for the long silences in the film was because the director was so used to making silent films.

Thanks for the info. I was wondering about the long breaks and what you said makes sense.

So glad my information helped.

They just made it creepier.

I thought the book and stage play was based off this movie?

You are correct. Everyone else is wrong.

I thought so. Thanks

So did the stage play also not resolve the plotpoint of Lucy being a vampire?

My copy has the option of a Phillip Glass score. The almost ambient music in the background eliminates those dreadful long silences without being intrusive. Pretty much transforms the movie.
