As a matter of face, no, the book doesn't - might try reading it.

The book says Dracula has peculiarly sharp teeth and specifically mentions that he has "long, sharp canine teeth". When Jonathan first encounters the Brides of Dracula and one of them goes to 'kiss' him, he feels two sharp teeth on his neck before Dracula stops her. Later, when Lucy and Mina are attacked by Dracula, one of the things their friends notice is that their teeth look longer and sharper than before. But the word fang is never used to describe these sharp teeth.

Bram Stoker.

reply

He's so badass he wont need 'em!

reply

I agree Lucasqvintus, he didn't need them because he was creepy enough.

I'm sure it had something to do with the budget. It never actually shows him up close biting someone's neck so you can assume that his fangs do come out when he feeds, despite not seeing them.

On a side note, did Bela Lugosi ever have fangs?

reply

He never did.

reply

I had always assumed it was because of censorship reasons.

My guess is if Dracula always had fangs, it would have been too obvious, he was a vampire. The director probably didn't want the hassle of having fangs appear, when he attacked his victims, or maybe didn't know a good way to do it, so they let it go.

The fangs were created in the 1958 version, Horror of Dracula
