I'm curious as to why it's a 4/10 for you.

because that is her or her opinion a simple fact you cannot seem to wrap you big dumb head around.

Narcissistic Personality Disorder is characterized by a long-standing pattern of grandiosity (either in fantasy or actual behavior), an overwhelming need for admiration, and usually a complete lack of empathy toward others. People with this disorder often believe they are of primary importance in everybody’s life or to anyone they meet. While this pattern of behavior may be appropriate for a king in 16th Century England, it is generally considered inappropriate for most ordinary people today.

People with narcissistic personality disorder often display snobbish, disdainful, or patronizing attitudes. For example, an individual with this disorder may complain about a clumsy waiter’s “rudeness” or “stupidity” or conclude a medical evaluation with a condescending evaluation of the physician.

In laypeople terms, someone with this disorder may be described simply as a “narcissist” or as someone with “narcissism.” Both of these terms generally refer to someone with narcissistic personality disorder.

A personality disorder is an enduring pattern of inner experience and behavior that deviates from the norm of the individual’s culture. The pattern is seen in two or more of the following areas: cognition; affect; interpersonal functioning; or impulse control. The enduring pattern is inflexible and pervasive across a broad range of personal and social situations. It typically leads to significant distress or impairment in social, work or other areas of functioning. The pattern is stable and of long duration, and its onset can be traced back to early adulthood or adolescence.

Thank you, Rinzzler, for saying the same thing I keep thinking. It doesn't make someone dumb and an imbecile with no taste just because they don't find this movie interesting. 4/10 was my rating, too. It just didn't feel like the plot was able to really carry itself well for the full time it ran. I found it interesting, but not scary.

Applause for you, my friend!

I am with you, although my rating will be a little bit higher than a 4. I haven't fully decided but probably a 6 or 7.

I'm going to give it some points for being such an old film and either being the 'first' to do certain things, or among the first. The 'first' (or close) horror film...the 'first' (or close) twist ending...the first (or close) Expressionist film. For those reasons, I think it deserves a few nods it wouldn't get if the same exact film was made in, say, 1950.

Having said that...the film itself is not the greatest thing ever, I agree with you. I can't see me watching this again. Maybe 10 years down the road, idk. But I can't imagine me on a rainy day saying "man I really want to fire up Caligari right now!" It's just not that gripping of a film. Important, sure. Groundbreaking - perhaps. Great theater/drama? No. I'm glad I saw it, but that's about it. (As opposed to, say, "Nosferatu" - I can watch that over and over.)

Caligari was done too much like a play, in fact it felt like that's what it was. Not just with the 'acts' but the sets/scenery. Yes I know they were going for the Expressionist style, but it was also incredibly and unbelievably cheap, it could have been a high school play, it was so bare-bones. And there was a plot hole to me before the 'twist ending' - I couldn't figure out why this one character was the only one who recognized that the director was Caligari - wasn't the whole town going to the fair? Surely someone else would have recognized him too. He was out there on the platform yelling to the crowd. And how did he carry out his dastardly plot when the fair was in other towns? Did he travel around with the fair and take long leaves of absence all summer? Or did he just suddenly insert himself into the 'lineup' when the fair came to this town? I was asking myself how all of this was possible when the 'twist ending' suddenly appeared on screen, making me then say 'oh so maybe that's why this wouldn't make sense' lol.

I gave it a 5/10

I liked it a lot but silent movies are very trying for some viewers. I struggled with them when I was younger but I've now grew to appreciate and enjoy them.
