If JD Vance was hoping Donald Trump would anoint him as his successor, he probably wasn’t thrilled by the president’s comments during his Fox News interview on Sunday.
After Brett Baier asked Trump if he saw Vance as his heir, the president quickly said, “No,” though he conceded his second vice president was “very capable.”
What do you think Trump might do to get another term? Even if he succeeds in stopping the 2028 election, the Senator who is next in line of succession will take over.
If there is no 2028 election, then Trump, Vance and Johnson (Speaker of the House) are out of office and gone. Chuck Grassley would become president as he would still be president pro tempore of the Senate.
He could just say the election process is corrupt, so the elections are on hold indefinitely. He was convicted of fraud because the courts are corrupt, so pardon the rioters, including the violent ones. Law enforcement is corrupt so fire anyone involved in investigating him or the capital riots and coup attempt. Treasury is corrupt, so get rid of everybody and give a billionaire who spent hundreds of millions to get Trump elected total access, and so on.
That's been the MO.
"This is the most corrupt our elections have ever been. I won in a landslide, probably the greatest landslide in history. My margin of victory was ten times what they said. There is no point to having elections until we are able to fix this corruption."
It might not matter to Trump, but as of January 2029, Trump is no longer president. The new president, per the line of succession would likely be Senator Grassley unless the Democrats take the Senate in 2026.
I doubt that Trump has the support of enough of the military to simply install himself as president for a third term or become a dictator. All the new president has to do to get rid of Trump is have him arrested and detained by the military. It is interesting how useful the Supreme Court's decision on immunity might be to another president some day.
There'd be some pretense, like fighting corruption, their go to right now whenever they have to justify the Musk/Trump power grab.
The elections must be suspended because they are corrupt. Meanwhile they'll be rooting out anyone involved in the process who isn't a Trump loyalist. Maybe they'll never get around to unsuspending them.
Worst case scenario, but so far the Trump second term has been a worst case scenario.

What was your doomsday scenrio the last 4yrs when Biden was doing a bang-up job on the country? He sure as fk wasnt trying to weed out abuse and waste and corruption. Quit clowning.
Trump's not doing that either. Corruption is just an excuse to purge the FBI and other agencies of people who won't bend the knee to him and to cut things he doesn't like. They just do massive cuts across the board, never cite specific fraud or waste that they are targeting unless it's made up.
100 million never went to Hamas to make bombs out of condoms, for example.
Pretty sure it was $50mill. And this was addressed already in the Oval Office the other day by Musk.
America shouldnt put up the bill for any horny foreigners (there were condoms sent to some country, thats been verified, just not Hamas). Who would agree to that? We are not their mommies.
Do you think our tax dollars should be use to buy sexual prophylactics for other countries?
Trump said it was 100 million. And he said the condoms were being used to make bombs, somehow. Like all pathological liars, he has trouble keeping them straight.
All musk said was that claiming it went to Hamas was an error. They rarely point to anything specific when they make these big, across the board cuts and when they do, they get a lot wrong.
"Trump said it was 100 million."
**I had heard 59mil but this is semantics.
"All musk said was that claiming it went to Hamas was an error."
**Ok, and? Is this somehow bad that he didnt stick & move and try to deflect his error like most politicians would do? Does he need a confessional-booth to make it right? Hell, he has made errors with his SpaceX rockets several times. We shouldve grounded him a decade ago if he cant get it right the 1st time, aye?
Not sure if I can make this any easier....My tax dollars for condoms to ANY foreign countries is no bueno. I dont care if its Hamas or Sri Lanka.
It's an obvious lie. 50 million going to Hamas for condoms was absurd. It just sounds shocking and outrageous, which is what they want to justify the massive across the board cuts they are making.
I don't believe for a moment they made an honest mistake when they said it was 100 million for condoms to Hamas that they were using to make bombs. The two things are not even close to the same.
And that's not semantics. Look up what arguing over semantics means. This has nothing to do with definitions.
Whether or not we should be spending money on things like AIDS prevention in other countries is beside the point. You would understand that it's congress that has the power to control spending if a Democrat were in power, trying to cancel things the right supports, like say some weapons program. Maybe the 400 million to Tesla to build an armored version of his POS cybertruck. You'd have a completely different view about whether a president should be able to stop spending that had been approved by congress, then.
I find it hard to stomach this rightousness and surprise pearl-clutching coming from the left after 4 long years of silence for the last admin. Its dubious.
Why would you anoint anyone with at least 3 year left before you would need to pick a candidate? A lot can happen in that time. Vance might do great and he gets anointed... but he could fail in which case why anoint him now to only have to find a way to boot him later.
