Maybe today, but JD Vance grew up 20+ years ago. I was never "confused" about my sexuality. In fact , I don't think anyone was. Even the gay people new they were gay. I doubt there was any 'confusion'.

I grew up in the 70s and 80s and I know what you're saying. However, that doesn't preclude those that did something or thought something and wondered "Does that make me gay?"
Of course, the thing was almost never related to being gay in any way shape or form. I knew one guy that thought putting anything hard in his mouth - anything - made him gay.
He didn't understand that desire for sexual activity with another man is what makes you gay, not some random physical act with an object that perceive to be akin to a penis.
