I know what you're talking about. Those hideous "plug" or "gauge" earrings. I've seen both men and women with these. Stretching ones earlobes out of shape isn't "cool." Neither are trashy tattoos and other practices that do permanent damage to the body.
Do they ever think about future consequences? In a few decades these people will be laughed at. Like when we laugh today at pictures of hippies from the 1960s and 70s. At least the hippies were able to get haircuts, shave and throw away their ridiculous clothing. These people with the sleazy tattoos and outrageous earrings will have to live with their bad decisions unless they want to go through surgery. It's sad.
